Covid-19 Response
Belize’s first COVID-19 case was confirmed on March 23rd 2020 in San Pedro Town. Immediately after, our community, San Pedro Town, was placed under a 72-hour emergency lock down. Hope Haven and all its volunteers...
Safety and security don’t just happen, they are the result of collective consensus and public investment. We owe our children, the most vulnerable citizens in our society, a life free of violence and fear.
Hope Haven Belize provides care for children who have been abandoned, neglected or sexually and physically abused by their parents or guardians. Currently, Hope Haven is home to 13 children. Nine girls and two boys between the ages of 3-16 years old. Each child carries a story inside that reminds us of our commitment to the at-risk children of San Pedro Town. The children in our care are lovingly raised by house mothers whose mission it is to provide stability, positive attention, guidance, and love to each child in our home. The children are also given the opportunity to return to school and equipped with all the necessary tools to excel and prepare them for the next chapter of their lives. While in our care, the children celebrate birthdays, holidays and their victories. We share in their victories and milestones while ensuring that they are safe, valued and prioritized.
Hope Haven’s foster children receive individual and group therapy where they learn to cope and address their trauma. Most of our children are girls, who have suffered sexual and/or physical violence at the hands of family members. The extensive emotional damage our children carry within them is of utmost importance to us. We provide play therapy and talk-therapy to the children depending on their age. The children are taught coping mechanisms that include art therapy, breathing techniques and critical thinking exercises. Each child has a different need and with each session the children become more equipped to self-regulate and heal.
Children arrive at Hope Haven Belize with very little reading and comprehension skills as they have either been out of school or have never been enrolled. A major focus of our work is helping our children overcome their educational setbacks and feel encouraged to succeed in the classroom. Each child is enrolled in a private school to support their needs. They are fully equipped with the necessary school supplies including a Google Chrome laptop for virtual learning. Daily educational services at our in-house learning center help them to catch up in school and feel prepared. If you would like to empower a child through education you can do so here.

Hope Haven is a not-for-profit organization. We receive less than 10% of our income needs from the Government of Belize; therefore, we are dependent on the generosity of individuals and companies who share our passion in making a difference in the lives of the children we serve.
