Our Vision

Providing Shelter and Empowering Children & Families of Belize for a brighter future.

San Pedro Town on Ambergris Caye in Belize is host to nearly 25,000 residents, where there is great need for children and families. Hope Haven is the only children's shelter on the island, hosts the Colleen's Kitchen Food Bank to over 150 women and children, and hosts empowerment programs for youth and young women. From providing counseling services, to serving hot meals, and providing business opportunities, our goal is to give hope to the community we live in.

43% of Belize’s population lives in poverty. Our people are struggling to make ends meet. Most families are one emergency away from losing their homes or falling into major debt.

We are currently raising funds for our programs and ongoing operating expenses. We are working as fast as our funds allow us to, but maintaining a shelter for the country comes at a cost. If you are interested in partnering with us, we would love to have you join us. Whether volunteering or contributing financially, your support is what we need to keep going.

Help us to make a difference in this place. We can’t do it without you!

Our Beginning

OUR BEGINNING
A Story of Restoration
The building which now holds Hope Haven previously held a bar with questionable services rendered. Through a partnership with Lions Den of San Pedro, nonprofits Raise Me Up and Shine Belize were able to restore the building to a place of hope and empowerment. The “pole” used for said services was even transformed into a ballet bar, now used for preschool ballet.

Through a complete renovation project, and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, Hope Haven was born and we now serve over 100 families with counseling, shelter, bible studies, artisan programs, and empowerment.

Before Hope Haven, there was no safe place for the children of Belize who end up in unfortunate circumstances. Now, the upstairs of the building hosts a children's shelter where we are partnered with social services and provide a safe place for children to stay.

We are so thankful for all who contributed to this effort! We still need your help! If you are interested in volunteering or contributing financially, we still have to maintain the programs and shelter operating costs every month! Thank you for helping to make a difference in San Pedro, Belize!

Our Present

Did you know?

In addition to feeding families through our Food Bank program, we also have children living upstairs in our shelter. These children, along with our food bank families, are vetted and selected through the Social Services Department of Belize.

Hope Haven is partnered with Belize Social Services to provide a safe home for children ages 2-15 in our shelter. Currently, we have 6 full-time children (with room for more) in our care, and since we received our permit in September, we have had 25 children come through the shelter for a variety of reasons. Their stay periods range from days to months, and reasons include neglect and severe abuse.

We have 5 full-time house mothers who have all been vetted and approved by the Social Services Department.

Hope Haven provides a full time counselor to help serve the needs of the community. From play therapy for children to one-on-one session with adults, we want ensure a safe place for healing and counsel. Our counselor also works with parents to ensure they are properly prepared with parenting skills, and in some cases, can regain care of their children.

Do you have any feedback? Please message us with any comments or questions you may have. Do you want to help support us? Please reach out for ways that we can use your assistance!

With that said, we thank you for your continued support! We are a private not-for-profit NGO (Non Governmental Organization), which means that the operation of the shelter relies fully on donations and fundraising. We are Hope Haven, and would not have come this far without you.
